§ 42-404. Approval of license.

  • The city clerk shall fix a reasonable time for the hearing, cause notice thereof to be published in the official newspaper not less than seven days prior thereto, cause notice to be given to the applicant and the license committee by regular mail or by personal service not less than five days prior to date of hearing. Not later than 30 days after the hearing the license committee shall submit to common council its recommendation as to whether public convenience and necessity will be served by granting of the application. The common council shall approve such application unless it finds after the public hearing that public convenience and necessity would not be served by the granting of such license, or that the equipment of the applicant does not meet the requirements of Wis. Stats. ch. 85. The common council may hold such further hearings and procure such additional information as it may deem necessary or advisable in making such determination. After favorable determination by the common council, the police department shall inspect the vehicles referred to in the application and if found to be in satisfactory condition for the purposes as set forth in this section, the vehicles may be used. The taxicab license shall be issued by the clerk after approval by the governing body. The applicant shall pay all fees related to the public hearing.
